How to install IceCat in Ubuntu

To Install IceCat in Ubuntu

IceCat is a free-ware, private browser is developed by the GNU Project. It manages quite a big list of free plugins. Installation of IceCat is explained in this manual.

To install IceCat

Run the following command to add the dependency package into the repository.

root@linuxhelp:~# sudo apt-add-repository "deb http://mirror.fsf.org/trisquel/ toutatis-updates main"  


Then update the machine by using the following command.

root@linuxhelp:~# apt-get update

Run the following command to install the IceCat package.

root@linuxhelp:~# apt-get install icecat

To open the IceCat browser through command prompt use the following command.

root@linuxhelp:~#icecat 

SEARCH_ICECAT

 

Now start accessing your favorite website through IceCat

BROWSER
Ubuntu_start_page

As I said on http://linuxpitstop.com/install-icecat-31-8-0-on-ubuntu-15-04 do not do this. Here is the full comment: `sudo apt-add-repository “deb http://mirror.fsf.org/trisquel/ toutatis-updates main”` Don’t do this, or remove the repository before your system upgrades to using Trisquel base-files packages: It would overwrite your `/etc/lsb-release` file, indicating Trisquel’s name and version, which would cause apt-add-repository to bug when you try to remove the repo afterward. It may also change your linux kernel (unsure). Hopefully, I’ll fix everything on my system.
