mtPaint is an open-source and cross-platform painting application which was initially built for creating icons, pixel based artworks and also for digital photo manipulation. Apart from this, mtPaint can also be used for editing indexed palette. Installing mtPaint on Ubuntu is quite easy, and this article sheds light on it.
Before you begin the installation, make sure you update your system with the following command.
root@linuxhelp2:~# apt-get update
In order to install mtPaint Graphic Editor, it is required to install certain dependencies in your system. So, add them to your machine by using the following command.

Installing Launchpad is also necessary for the installation of mtPaint Graphic Editor. Run the following command to download and install Launchpad.

Then run the following command once it is done.

Now is the time for the installation of mtPaint, but before that you need to add & update the repo to install mtpaint.

With this, the installation of mtPaint is over. The usability of mtPaint is not just confined to creating static artwork but also for creating animation and animated GIF's.
