How to install PhpBB on Linux mint 18.03

To install PhpBB on Linux mint 18.03
phpBB is an open source forum software that provides a virtual space for discussion among the members of your website. It has a variety of features like flat topic structure, sub-forums, forum-specific styles, user groups, group-based permissions, database query and template caching, support for PHP 7, multiple database engines and much more.

To install LAMP(Apache, MariaDB and  php7.0)
In MariaDB (create database and user and give privileges to that user)

Php installation with required following modules

add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/php 
apt-get update 
apt-get install php7.0 php7.0-mysql php7.0-curl php7.0-json php7.0-cgi libapache2-mod-php7.0 php7.0-mcrypt php7.0-xmlrpc php7.0-gd php7.0-mbstring php7.0  php7.0-common 
php7.0-xmlrpc php7.0-soap php7.0-xml php7.0-intl  php7.0-cli  php7.0-ldap php7.0-zip php7.0-readline php7.0-imap php7.0-tidy php7.0-recode php7.0-sq php7.0-intl

Download a phpBB cms package using by wget command.

The downloaded package is a zip file, so we need to unzip the package now.

linuxhelp ~ # unzip

  inflating: phpBB3/language/en/memberlist.php  
  inflating: phpBB3/language/en/install.php

Change the ownership and permission for phpBB directory

linuxhelp ~ # ls
linuxhelp ~ # chown -R www-data:www-data phpBB3/
linuxhelp ~ # chmod -R 775 phpBB3

Move the composer directory into the /html location

linuxhelp ~ # mv phpBB3/ /var/www/html/

Create a new virtual host configuration to accessing the phpBB cms application

linuxhelp ~ # cd /etc/apache2/sites-available/
linuxhelp sites-available # vim php.conf
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/phpBB3/
<Directory /var/www/html/phpBB3/>
AllowOverride All
allow from all

Enable the site access.

linuxhelp sites-available # a2ensite php.conf 
Enabling site php.
To activate the new configuration, you need to run:
  service apache2 reload

Enable the rewrite module.

linuxhelp sites-available # a2enmod rewrite 
Enabling module rewrite.
To activate the new configuration, you need to run:
  service apache2 restart

Entry to the host file

linuxhelp sites-available # vim /etc/hosts
<your ip address>     <your domain name>

Then we need to restart the apache2 service

linuxhelp sites-available # systemctl restart apache2.service

Now you can proceed the further installation and configuration from the browser by navigating to the following URL of http://local IP (or) domain name
give httpd request

The installation setup of phpBB appears on your screen. Proceed with the installation.

In the next page, you need to fill the admin detail and click Submit.

In the next page, you need to fill database details and click Submit.

Next, you should fill server configuration details and click Submit.

After that, you need to fill the email-configuration details and click Submit.

on the below following page, you need to give the site details and click Submit.

phpBB is getting installed now.
get installing

The installation is now complete, Click on ‘Take me to ACP.’

The admin page of the phpBB now appears on the screen.
