How to install vTiger CRM in Ubuntu 16.04

To install vTiger CRM in Ubuntu 16.04

vTiger CRM is an all-in-one, open source, cross-platform, web based, modular, customer relationship management system for sales force automation, customer support & service and marketing automation and it helps you to run your own business. Some of the features included in vTiger CRM are  lead management, account and contact management, campaign management, project management, customer support and service, emails, etc. vTiger can be connected to other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to integrate already existing data.


Installing vTiger CRM

For installing the vTiger CRM, you need to have the LAMP stack installed in your system. After installing it, you can continue your vTiger installation. And then,  you need to download the vTiger installation package. Make sure you run the wget command in the following manner. 

root@test:/home/user# wget https://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/vtigercrm/vtiger%20CRM%207.0.1/Core%20Product/vtigercrm7.0.1.tar.gz

After that you shall extract the downloaded package by making use of the following command. 
root@test:/home/user# tar -xvf vtigercrm7.0.1.tar.gz -C /var/www/html/
vtigercrm/
vtigercrm/data/
vtigercrm/data/CRMEntity.php
vtigercrm/data/Tracker.php
…
…
…
vtigercrm/storage/.htaccess
vtigercrm/vtigerversion.php
vtigercrm/schema/
vtigercrm/schema/DatabaseSchema.xml


Once it is done, you shall change the ownership for vtigercrm directory. 

root@test:/home/user# chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/vtigercrm

 


Next, make sure you  configure your MySQL database for vtiger.  Run the following command to enter into MySQL database.  And the, you shall make the following configuration. 

root@test:/home/user# mysql -u root -p
Enter password: 
Welcome to the MySQL monitor.  Commands end with ; or g.
Your MySQL connection id is 4
Server version: 5.7.20-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 (Ubuntu)
Copyright (c) 2000, 2017, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.

mysql> create database vtiger;
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.12 sec)
mysql> create user 'vtigeruser'@'localhost' identified by 'password';
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.35 sec)
mysql> grant all privileges on vtiger.* to 'vtigeruser'@'localhost';
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.04 sec)
mysql> flush privileges;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.35 sec)
mysql> exit
Bye


Afterwards, you shall configure your Apache virtual host for vTiger CRM.  Run the following commands to open the .conf file. 

root@test:/home/user# touch /etc/apache2/sites-available/vtiger.conf
root@test:/home/user# ln -s /etc/apache2/sites-available/vtiger.conf /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/vtiger.conf
root@test:/home/user# nano /etc/apache2/sites-available/vtiger.conf
Add the following  virtual host configuration to the file. 
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin linuxhelpserver@gmail.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/vtigercrm/
ServerName test.linuxhelp1.com
ServerAlias www.test.linuxhelp1.com
<Directory /var/www/html/vtigercrm/>
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride All
</Directory>
ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/test-error_log
CustomLog /var/log/apache2/test-access_log common
</VirtualHost>
Save the file and exit. 


Later, you need to restart the Apache web server. 

root@test:/home/user# service apache2 restart

 

Next, open the web browser and navigate to http://test.linuxhelp1.com/vtigercrm, the vTtiger CRM’s installation wizard appears.

In the next page, you need to accept the license agreement. Proceed further to next step.

All the installation prerequisites appears in this page. Proceed further.

In the next page, enter your database and admin user information in the respective fields.

And the confirm the configuration settings and proceed further to the next step.

In this page, you need to select the industry type and click Install.

The installation is now in progress.

Once the installation is done, the vTiger Login page appears on your screen. Enter the credentials to login.

In the next page, it will ask you to select the features that you need for your vTiger application.

After when you reach your dashboard, you shall add widgets through the option available in the top right corner.

There are other features available on vTiger CRM, check them out from the left panel.

You can now add your projects to the site.

You can also configure the vTiger CRM.

With this, the installation of vTiger CRM comes to an end.
