To install Krita in Linux

Krita is a free tool for digital painters, concept artists, and illustrators. This tool is used for developing drawings, sketches etc., and supports various formats like JPEG, PNG, GIF and TIFF. Installation of Krita is explained in this article.


To install krita

Add the krita repository by using the following command.

root@linuxhelp:/home/user1/Desktop# add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports
Backports of new versions of KDE Platform, Plasma and Applcations as well as major KDE apps for Kubuntu.

Update the system by using apt-get command.

To Launch krita

Run the following command to start the Krita application.

root@linuxhelp:/home/user1/Desktop# krita


To create a new image, click New.

Click file, select any template or use the existing document as per the requirement.

Then trigger Use This Template

To apply filter to the template, click Filter.

For changing themes for the template. Go to Settings &rarr Themes and choose your favourite theme.

To Import/Export template, click Layer &rarr Import/Export
