Facebook make changes on Ad transparency

A Promise made by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled changes to its advertising platform to boost transparency an authenticity.

Facebook Vice President of Ads Rob Goldman said, “ We' re going to make advertising more transparent, and not just for political ads,” .

Facebook and other online platforms came under scrutiny after an investigation revealed a Russian “ troll farm” bought ads and planted them in targeted markets on sensitive issues like LGBT matters to immigration issues.

These revelations ignited the senate campaign named “ Honest Ads Act” which is sponsored by various Senators. Statements issued by the senators are “ reasonable efforts to ensure that foreign individuals and entities are not purchasing political advertisements in order to influence the American electorate" and would amend “ the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002' s definition of electioneering communication to include paid Internet and digital advertisements.” .

Goldman assured that Facebook is striving to make all ads transparent to its users.

Users will be able to click “ View Ads” option on a page and view ads on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. These features will be rolled out from next month, starting from Canada first. “ All Pages will be part of this effort, and we will require that all ads be associated with a Page as part of the ad creation process.” Goldman wrote in his blog post.

“ For political advertisers that do not proactively disclose themselves, we are building machine learning tools that will help us find them and require them to verify their identity,” Goldman wrote.

Earlier this week, Twitter also took steps to make the advertising more transparent.
