How to install Audacity on Debian 8.3

Audacity is an open-source, multi-platform audio editor and recorder, running on Linux, Windows and Mac OS X. It has features like distortion effect, rhythm track, timer record, etc. This tutorial covers on the installation procedure of Audacity on Debian. 

 

Installation procedure

To begin with the installation procedure, first open the sources.list file using the nano command. 

root@linuxhelp:~# nano /etc/apt/sources.list

The sources.list file is opened. Now add these lines at end of the file. Save and exit from the file. 

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian jessie main

Next execute the command to update the apt sources-list.

root@linuxhelp:~# apt-get update

The sources.list is updated in the target machine. Now install the Audacity package using the apt-get install command. 

root@linuxhelp:~# apt-get install audacity

  audacity-data libflac++6 libid3tag0 libportsmf0 libsbsms10 libsoxr0 libvamp-hostsdk3

Once the package is installed, click on the Activities window and type the Audacity package name in the search bar. The icon appears, run the application and use it for various audio recording and editing purposes. Audacity

Wasn't that an easy installation procedure? Audacity can record multiple recordings and has playback devices managed by the device toolbar.
