How to install Harmony Music Player on Ubuntu 16.04

The Linux Distros contains a multitude of music players to suit every user' s taste and needs. The newly released Harmony Music Player is a cross-platform that has easy to use and responsive UI with cloud compatibility. It features online music streaming from Spotify, Deezer, last.fm and local file integration. It also has various plugin support. This article will explain the installation of Harmony Music player on Ubuntu 16.04.

Installation procedure

Before starting the installation procedure, you can install the gdebi debian installer by executing the following command.

root@linuxhelp:~# apt-get install gdebi

Setting up gdebi (0.9.5.7ubuntu1) ...
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.23-0ubuntu3) ...

After installing the gdebi package. Download the Harmony Music Player by executing the wget command followed by the download link.

root@linuxhelp:~# wget https://github.com/vincelwt/harmony/releases/download/v0.6.0/harmony-0.6.0-x64.deb

Now install the Harmony Music Player using the gdebi installer and run the following command.

root@linuxhelp:~# gdebi harmony-0.6.0-x64.deb

The Harmony music player is installed in your system. Now go to the Ubuntu dashboard and type harmony. Click on the icon to run the application. ubuntu dashboard

The list of music plugins is shown below. You can choose any of the application or even the local tracks in your system.

Choose any plugin that you need to listen to music.

By selecting the Listen with local tracks option, the harmony player will show the list of music tracks in your system.

The installation of Harmony music player is done. Harmony music players also have shortcuts to select tracks.
