How to install Linux Mint 18.3

To install Linux Mint 18.3

Linux Mint 18.3 is a new and upgrade operating system from the series of Linux Mint Operating system which contains the long-term support release. It was released a few months ago. It comes with many updated features and the screen saver is written in Python and contains a score of features in the OS. For the past few months, we have covered tutorials with several installations and configurations on this new OS version. We have not seen about the method to install it, and now in this tutorial, we' ll explain the installation procedure of Linux Mint 18.3.

Installation procedure

To start the installation procedure, boot into Linux Mint installation with bootable media of your choice (USB or DVD). Select Start Linux Mint option. After Booting you to get Desktop environment of Linux mint-18.3 as shown below.

Now choose the Live boot which is available on your desktop as " Install Linux Mint"

Now the Installation of Linux Mint Operating System begins. First, you need to choose the Language of Installation.

On next Screen, you will be asked to choose the third-party software for graphics and wifi hardware and so on. This is optional you can unselect and continue.

Then. you have to choose the installation type. if you want to make use of Entire Disk space you can choose " Erase disk and install" or if you want to do manual configuration choose " something else"

In this tutorial, we are going to do a manual Partitioning so choose " something else"

Next, you will see the partition of your disk. select the disk in which you want to install a Linux Mint and choose " New Partition table"

Click on Continue to proceed

Now the free disk space will be displayed as shown. choose the disk and click on new partition table to create a new partition

Configure the partition table as follows

  • Boot partition &ndash mount on /boot
  • Swap partition &ndash mount on swap
  • Root partition &ndash mounted on /


Click “ +” symbol to create the partition

As you see three partitions are created successfully and then click Install now option.

After assigning partition configure the basic setup such as choosing Keyboard layout, Time zone, and user account setup as follows

After all the configuration, the setup begins to install and takes a few minutes based on system configuration

Once the installation is complete restart the computer.

Now linuxMint has been installed and the following login screen will appear. Log in using the user account which created during the installation.
