How to install Penguin subtitle player on Ubuntu 16.04

Penguin Subtitle Player is an open-source, cross-platform standalone subtitle player, as an alternative to Greenfish Subtitle Player, SrtViewer (Mac), SRTPlayer, JustSubsPlayer and Free Subtitle Player. The Penguin Subtitle Player is especially useful for online video streaming websites that don' t support subtitles or don' t allow custom subtitles. You can also use Penguin Subtitle Player to display subtitles in a custom position, like on the black top/bottom bands, or to display multiple subtitles in the same time. This article explains the installation procedure of Penguin Subtitle player on Ubuntu 16.04.

Installation procedure

To begin with the installation procedure, add the dependency package into repository via ppa.

root@linuxhelp:~# add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8

After adding the dependency packages. Update the machine by executing the apt-get update command.

root@linuxhelp:~# apt-get update

The target system is updated with the required repositories. Install the penguin subtitle player by running the following command.

The penguin application is installed successfully. Now launch the penguin player from ubuntu dashboard and click on the icon to run the application.
