Phishing Scam Blocks The Excel File And Collects The Login Credentials
A silly phishing scam is reported by the bleeping computer that dupes people into believing that their ‘Excel file is blocked’ has been doing the rounds on the internet. The scammers send phishing emails to the victims that provide a fake alert that the user can not open your Excel or any document file due to a system delay. The scammers then askes the victims to click on the Configure Excel and PDF Settings button to verify their accounts. The scammers also create unique and outlandish campaigns so that it can easily tend the victims into sharing their login credentials even though they are aware of the phishing scams.
When the users click on the ‘Configure Excel and PDF Settings’ button it redirects them to a login form that is hosted on SharePoint and the login form pretends to be an Excel shared document. The login form asks the user to enter the login details. Once the user enters their username and password the scammers save the information and later the attackers make use of the login details acquired through the fake login form. With the information collected from the users, the attackers perform Business email compromise and personal account attacks.
To stay safe from such scammers and scamming techniques the users are advised to always contact the system administrators whenever a website tends them to click on a link or when in askes the users to enter their login credentials. And Users should be also very careful and aware of the email that asks them to provide their login credentials.
