Scammers Use Fake Steam skin giveaway site to get the login credentials of the users
A new scam that aims to steal the credentials of the users uses a fake Steam skin giveaway site. The scammers use the comments to promote the steam profiles. And the scammers are using a fake chat screen running on the left-hand side of the page to make it look more legitimate. The scam was first recognized by the researcher whose online name is nullcookies. The comment that the scammers tempt the users to share their credentials to get their rewards.
The Comment consists of "Dear winner! Your SteamID is selected as a winner of Weekly giveaway. Get your Karambit | Doppler on giveavvay.com." When the users click on the link it takes them to a next window where it pretends to be a $30,000 giveaway promotion that contains 26 days of free skin for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO). In order to receive the reward money the users enter their credentials.
The major motive of the scammers in getting the credentials is to hijack their Steam account trade away their items and perform other malicious activities such as further promoting their scam. To build the trust of the users upon the sites the scammers claim that these skins are allegedly being sponsored by G2A, Handouts, open cases. cheap, GamDom, Kinguin, and FaceIt. Do a thorough research of the site before providing your credentials.
