SNMP stands for Simple Network Management Protocol, which is used to share information about the current state of a server. It retrieves the operational statistics of the firewalls and routers.This protocol is so simple, but it contains a complex program structure. It is used by the graphical network monitoring tools like MRTG for the retrieval of information.switches, routers and servers are some of the devices that support SNMP. The packages such as ‘net-snmp-utils’ and ‘net-snmp’ provides the necessary services and utilities for SNMP.
