Virtual IP is used to provide unlimited mobility. It contains several variations and implementation scenarios like Common Address Redundancy Protocol (CARP) and Proxy Address Resolution Protocol (ARP). It is forked from the NAT device that can perform load sharing if it has multiple actual IP addresses. It eliminates a host’s dependency of individual network interface. It is primarily used for connection redundancy by offering alternative fail over options for single machine.
