Grub2

Grub2 is the default boot loader for Ubuntu. Grub2 is an advanced version to its predecessor GRUB which is a multi-boot loader. Grub2 is more flexible and has enhanced speed when compared to GRUB. GRUB2 provides a menu as soon as the computer starts and waits for the user input. Sometime, they also transfer the control to an operating system kernel.
