Root is the super user account in a computer. Root, also called as admin or superuser, has all the administrative control in the system. A root user has access to all the Linux commands and files. Logging in as a root user is essential for enabling several tasks. Only the root user has certain privileges such as modifying the files. This is called as root privileges as it has certain exclusivity.Root also denotes the prime directory in Linux. The root directory is the source for all the other directories, sub directories and files.
