In Linux, there are many messaging or chat servers for the users to chat with other using Instant Messaging (IM) that has long succeeded e-mail. OpenFire is an instant messaging and group chat server for Linux that supports the IM functionality and it is platform independent. Some other important messaging servers are SparkClient.
