SMB

Server Message Block(SMB) is a protocol which facilitates network communications among computers. SMB is a utility which is resourceful in sharing files between a windows server and a Linux client. It lets a client to make a request to the server and gets the response from that server.   In a nutshell, SMB protocol lets locally connected computers to read and write files to a remote host.
