Sysctl

Its implementation differs among BSD and other Linux distributions. In Linux, sysctl is used through a command line utility and it modifies information related to the kernel such as version number, maximum limits, and security settings. Its mechanism is also exported as part of procfs under the /proc/sys directory. In BSD the sysctl utility is implemented directly through the kernel.
