Apache

Apache is an open source web server software originally developed for UNIX and Ubuntu operating system. It is a modular application where the administrator can choose the required functionality and install different modules as per requirement. Apache is a modular web server mostly used in Linux that is maintained and developed by a community of open source developers. Apache Web Servers are often used in combination with the MySQL database engine, the HyperText Preprocessor (PHP) scripting language, and other popular scripting languages such as Python and Perl. This configuration is termed LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and Perl/Python/PHP) and forms a powerful and robust platform for the development and deployment of Web-based applications. Apache supports a variety of features, many implemented as compiled modules which extend the core functionality. These can range from server-side programming language support to authentication schemes. Apache features configurable error messages and DBMS-based authentication databases. It supports password authentication and digital certificate authentication. Since Apache source code is freely available, anyone can adapt the server for specific needs, and there is a large public library of Apache add-ons.
