How to create Host profiles in VMware vSphere

A host profile captures the configuration of a specific host and allows the user to duplicate the configuration to other host and allows the user to duplicate the configuration to other hosts or clusters. It also reduces the manual steps included in cluster host configuration. This tutorial covers the configuration procedure of creating host profiles in VMware vSphere.

Configuration procedure

To start the configuration procedure, first select host profiles from Operations and policies option from VMware vSphere.

Select Extract profile from a host option to create a new host profile.

Then select the host to be extracted for the host profile and click next option.

Next enter the name and description for the host profile and click next option.

After configuring the host profile, click finish to create the host profile.

The host profile creation is in progress. It may take up some time to complete the process.

The host profile is successfully created and select the host profile that has been created.

Now after selecting the host profile and if the user wants to add or detach a host profile to host and cluster,use the following attach/detach option.

And if the user needs to copy settings to host profiles use the copy settings option.

To duplicate the host profile, use the below shown option.

Then to make the changes to the host profile configuration, click configure and make changes to the host profile. Also the user can use the advanced configuration settings,network configuration and other options as required.

After configuring the host profile, it can be used to apply to a newly created host.
