DNS, expanded as Domain Name System, is a server used by the internet to convert domain names into  IP addresses when requested by an user. For example, a website URL when typed into a browser, the DNS servers converts that particular URL into the appropriate IP address. DNS is mostly relied for its quick transfer of necessary information to the connected users.
