CHOWN command is used to change the ownership of the user or group of a particular file or directory in Linux. All the files and documents belong to specific ownership. It can be changed with the help of chown and chgrp commands. If the ownership is given only for the file, the group name is not changed. If the group permission has to be set as well, the owner is followed by a group name separated by a colon.
