Difference between ACL and chmod

I am new to linux and I understand chmod and how the permission bits work... In another side am learning the ACL with setfacl and getfacl both are these two methods sightly perform same operation ... so this confuses me actullay what' s the difference between those two permission control systems?

The chmod command lets you change the access permissions of files and folders. The chmod command, like other commands, can be executed from the command line or through a script file"
