Linux Mint 18.1 released with smooth features and offers long-term support

The Ubuntu based Operating System Linux Mint is released with the newer version of 18.1 also known as Serena. It came out as a solid operating system that can run in edge case scenarios. It also offers a number of user interface options.

The release came as an alternative to the already axed Ubuntu’ s Unity and also Mint offers long term service with an updated Linux 4.4 kernel. The updates and support come from Ubuntu repositories and guaranteed to be supported till 2021.

Some of the smooth features while testing with generic hardware were resulted with instant functionality over USB drivers, VirtualBox worked with Linux Mint like a charm and testing Virtual machines payloads worked easily.

When the researchers tried to perform edge case scenarios, or unusual hardware on Lenovo Yoga hybrid tablet-notebook they were met with challenges like screen resolution geometry issue, bad mouse behavior, etc. These problems pose a question as whether to continue with Linux Mint. The solution is simple: it required invoking scripts.

As Mint is made from different sources, many of the features may be duplication of each other. But there was also open community back up to solve these issues on Linux Mint. So on the whole, Linux Mint contained some minor things that may frustrate the users, but there were some strong compatibility with many desktop machines and on final note stay away from hybrid hardware.
