Facebook shuts down Artificial Intelligence system after bots create a new language for themselves

Facebook has been forced to pull the plug on its Artificial Intelligence system after the chat bots in the system created its own language and started to communicate to each other without any human input.

A few days before SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has a tussle of words where they argued over the future of AI and since Musk had predicted that the concept of AI is now beyond Zuckerberg’ s understanding, the same scenario happened in Facebook. According to the reports, the researchers in Facebook AI Research Lab (FAIR) found out that the chatbots were communicating with each other to improve their bantering. Soon, the bots began to deviate from the scripted rules and appeared to chant on their own of a single same sentences.

Using machine learning algorithms, the dialogue agents or chat bots were left to converse freely to strengthen their conversational skills and negotiations skills, but it turned out to be straight out of a scene from a Sci-fi movie. Researchers had to shut down the system to report the glitches and reboot the system again to force the chatbots into speaking English.

Although this appears to be a huge breakthrough for AI, several experts including Stephen Hawking has expressed concerns over the giant evolution of AI compared to the slow biological evolution of a human. It could or could not spell disaster for mankind but technological evolution must be monitored and progressed slowly.

FAQ
Q
Is AI a science or engineering?
A
Artificial intelligence (AI) is an area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans. All activity will be done the way human does so we can say in AI we use science and engineering both. ... It involves both Science and Engineering as well.
Q
What is artificial intelligence?
A
Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to software that is capable of learning and making decisions almost in the same way as humans. AI enables machines, devices, programs, systems and services to function in a manner that is sensible in light of the given task and situation. AI can already recognise faces, understand speech, diagnose patients, analyse X-ray images and drive cars.
Q
Why do we need an AI Programme?
A
Several other countries and large companies around the world are investing billions of dollars in AI. Finland cannot afford to stay back in the race despite the fact that we do not have vast resources to invest in the creation of new AI. Therefore, we now need a vision shared by all stakeholders on how Finland could be the best country in the world in the agile application of AI to areas such as health and wellbeing, transport, energy, manufacturing industry and services.
Q
How can we take care of security issues in AI?
A
We need to be able to create a safe practice where you will know where your personal data is, who uses it, and how you can benefit from it.
Q
How does AI increase competitiveness?
A
AI combined with robotisation and automation enables increased productivity, production flexibility, as well as completely new products, services and business models. AI allows Finnish companies to add elements to their products and services that provide customers with greater added value.
